Aloha Kauai!

Devin and I journeyed to Hawaii in February and the reason for our trip was twofold.
1. Go to Hawaii.
2. Surprise Stan, who was there with his friend Kris, celebrating his 60th birthday.

We decided to go a day early in order to have some time alone and hike part of the Na Pali Coast.

We got to Kauai on Valentine's Day morning, picked up our rockin' Jeep, and headed to the North Shore - more specifically, Hanalei Bay.

Did you see The Descendants?  :)  We had to check out the bar!

Early morning drive on the way to the Kalalau trailhead.

To deter the unprepared?  Nah, we saw people in crocs and jean skirts!

Awesome. Awesome. Awesome.

Hanakapiai Falls - 4 miles

Looking down the coast on our hike out.

And later that evening, the surprise...

Devin knocks.
Stan opens the door.
Devin: Hey!
Stan: Yes?
Devin: Surprise!
Stan: (see my out-of-focus picture below)

That's us with Stan and Kris.

A few things to note:
A) We call Kris "MFK" because whenever Stan talks about her, he says "my friend, Kris" like we don't know who he's talking about, even though she is basically part of the family.
B) Stan was so excited about this trip that he told Devin everything we needed to know in order to find them and knock their socks off: flight info, rental address, etc.
C) His 60th isn't until June 27th, but why not get the party started?

This is "Baby Beach" - the beach across the road from their beach cottage. Beach.

At breakfast - it's just such a good picture of these two!

Devin and I came to the bar/restaurant early and these two met us later...after getting caught in a rain storm on the walk over.

ZIP LINE!
For his birthday, Devin and I took Stan zip lining.
It was the first time for all of us and we had a blast!

                  Signing his life away...

We ended the day in Poipu!

Awesome blended deliciousness!

Enjoying our last Hawaiian dinner together.

Happy (early) birthday Stan!
