The Job Search - Left then Right then Center

AKA: San Francisco, Boston, Chicago >>> APRIL 2011

Devin looked for a job like it was his job.  Most days you could find him at the kitchen table on the computer, searching for jobs and working on applications and his resume.

Eventually the job hunt took Devin and I to San Francisco (for an interview with Stryker) and Boston (for an interview with BCG) for a week in April and we capped the trip with a weekend in the Windy City.  Joining us in Chicago were two people that we sometimes have fun with.

Devin's 4th interview with Stryker happened to be on our 4-year wedding anniversary.  The day went well - he was very impressed with the culture at Stryker - and walked away with great feelings about the company.  (Despite the south San Jose location.)

Kind of lame pictures from Boston, but we did have a great time!  We did a lot of walking through the downtown area, hung out with friends, and Devin had an interview while I checked out Boston Childrens.

We stayed with our friends Cate and Trevor for a few nights which was fantastic!  They live in a great apartment and made us feel at home - they bought an air bed for the occasion.  It's so nice to drink a glass of wine and talk with these two...  By the way, Cate and Trevor have Brisco, Yeti's BFF in Denver.

Our friend Karen Auger lives in Medford and we were able to see her as well!  She took us to a bar/restaurant that had the best beer list in the land!  We met Karen on our Habitat trip to El Salvador in April (2010) and she's awesome!

We also stayed with Devin's college friend Chris Ott in Cambridge for a night before we left town.  Chris works for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute which is simply brilliant.  We met him for lunch and he showed us around the campus.  That night we went out to a cool little bar and listened to the musical stylings of Mind Yeti, an interesting band playing a "cluster f of disjointed musical 'expression'," to quote my husband.

Boston is a cool city and I look forward to visiting again!  I think we would have been happy there, but I have so say, it's hard to beat the Pacific, the bay, the Sierra Nevada, and the wine.  :)

So then we flew to Chicago...

We met Laura and Adam, checked into our hotel downtown, and the weekend that followed was a blast!

Our first night was spent hanging out and wandering around downtown.

Day two included more walking, pop-corn eating, and sight-seeing...

...followed by an Arcade Fire show at the UIC Pavillion!!

Then we walked about 3 miles back to our hotel.  Why?  Because we could.

The next day we met up with friends and took the train to a Cubs game at Wrigley Field!

Erin and John Crist (John and Devin have been friends since high school and they just had their first baby this fall!), Jamie Karczewski (a friend from our El Salvador trip who lives in Chicago), and you know the rest.

We followed the game up with great margaritas at a cute Mexican restaurant.

Devin powering down...

Devin and Adam crashed early that night - around 6:30 - so Laura and I want out and did some wandering/shopping along Michigan Avenue!  We had a blast!

Our weekend was capped off with a drive back to Minnesota on Easter Sunday.  We stopped in Janesville, WI in search of brunch and found a place called the Hhffrrrggh Inn.  I'm not kidding.  Unfortunately, they were busy and the wait was 2 hours, so we settled for Perkins where we ate a lot of white food and where I bought a vending/toy/machine mustache.  Devin didn't like it.

To sum it all up: we made the job search as fun as we could.
